Struggling With Iron Deficiency? Don't Do It Alone

Do you know anyone that has struggled with iron deficiency? Prevalence of iron deficiency is 9-12% in non-Hispanic white American women and nearly 20% in African-American and Mexican-American women. Those with iron deficiency are subject to various symptoms including, but not limited to fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches, and a range of cognitive symptoms often associated with psychological and behavioral disorders. Those who suffer from iron deficiency often find their success hindered due to the destructive physical and cognitive symptoms experienced as result of their deficiency. Energy, focus, effectiveness, and even intelligence can be drastically stunted due to iron deficiency; this can leave sufferers feeling as though they are letting themselves and others down. Why does this destructive, yet curable, deficiency still afflict 10 million Americans? Why were my own personal iron levels dangerously low for the majority of my life?
The answers to those questions are vast and varied, but my research highlights a few key factors. Many medical professionals aim to treat deficiencies with supplements rather than encourage diet changes for improving iron absorption, scientific data on nutrient absorption is not readily available to the average American and the most readily available sources are incomplete or misguided, and the standardized diet guidelines prescribed by trusted foundations, such as the United States Department of Agriculture, are not suitable for the prevention of iron deficiency. So what is to be done? I believe that the answer lies in education and in the development of dietary tools that guide users to best adjust their diets for increased iron absorption. I am developing a sharable database of dietary guidelines for correcting iron deficiency and conducting primary research to determine effective solutions for providing education on the issue and aiding individuals as they look to conquer their own malnutrition.
This blog is my first attempt at reaching out. If you are struggling with iron deficiency and the effects of it in your life please comment and stay tuned to my blog. I believe that I have tapped into something that works for correcting low iron levels and I will update as often as I can in order to share that with you all.
